Start Your Day with a Stack of Letters: Pancake with Jam Font is Here!

Good morning. Let me introduce you to what is arguably the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen since I found out there’s a thing called “extreme ironing.” It’s called the Pancake with Jam Font. Yes, you heard me right. We’re talking about an entire alphabet constructed from… pancakes. Pancakes with jam, no less. So now, not only do we have to grapple with the horrors of Comic Sans, but someone out there, some brave (or possibly insane) soul, decided what the world really needed was lettering made from breakfast food.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I love pancakes. Who doesn’t? They’re fluffy, comforting, the perfect vessel for syrup, butter, fruit, you name it. But when you start asking yourself, “What if my morning food could also be typography?”—that’s when you know something in society has gone horribly, horribly wrong. So now, here we are, with a font that’s basically the breakfast special, a stack of carbs with a side of typography.

Fluffy, Fruity, and Fontastic: The Pancake with Jam Font is a Morning Must

They tell me it’s a “high definition OpenType font,” which means it only works in apps that are compatible with color bitmap fonts. Translation: if your software can’t handle it, you’re stuck with a bunch of sad, pixelated pancakes that look like they’ve been left out overnight. And in HD? Well, let’s just say you can practically see the sticky drips of jam, the little creases in the pancakes, like they’ve just been flipped off the griddle and onto your computer screen. I’m half expecting my laptop to smell like brunch.

I suppose I should be impressed. It’s creative, I’ll give it that. And isn’t that what creativity is all about? As someone once said (probably while chewing thoughtfully on a croissant), “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” And nothing says “intelligence having fun” quite like letters made out of carbohydrates. It’s absurd, it’s messy, it’s vaguely appealing in a “how do they come up with this stuff?” kind of way. And, yes, it’s utterly useless for anything even remotely professional.

Pancake OpenType  Font description

The Pancake Font is a high-resolution OpenType typeface that includes uppercase letters, numbers, and basic punctuation, with each character approximately 800 pixels tall. You can view a complete preview of the available letters and glyphs.

This color OpenType font is intended for use in software compatible with color bitmap fonts. To fully access its features, you’ll need applications such as Photoshop CC 2017, Illustrator CC 2018, Procreate 4.3, or later versions. As OpenType is an industry-standard format, this font should also be compatible with many popular tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Keynote, PowerPoint, Word, and others.

In addition, each character is provided as an individual PNG file with a transparent background, in a high resolution of 4000×4000 pixels. The download package contains 52 files, one for each character in the Pancake Font set, allowing you to arrange them manually in any graphic design software for customized text compositions.

Sweet and Sticky Design

Imagine trying to write an important memo with this font. “Dear board of directors, we need to discuss the third-quarter profits…” —and here comes a giant ‘P’ that looks like it’s slathered in raspberry jam. I mean, it’s the stuff of nightmares. But then again, maybe that’s the charm of it. Typography can get a little uptight, don’t you think? All those sans-serifs, Helvetica here, Arial there, like a room full of well-behaved accountants. But Pancake with Jam? It’s the font equivalent of your eccentric Aunt Miriam showing up at Thanksgiving in a feather boa.

And if you think about it, the layout possibilities are endless. You could make an entire menu using this font, or maybe some morning-themed advertising. It would be the perfect font for a diner ad, right? It practically begs to be slathered across a breakfast special. The downside? It’ll probably make everyone reading it hungry. You won’t remember a single word, but you’ll suddenly have a craving for pancakes.
