Ice Fonts – Frozen, Frosty & Crystal Typography

Ice Fonts is a collection about one material behaving in several different ways. Ice can be crazed right through, worn round and smooth by water, grown into icicles under a stroke, or frozen around something else entirely — there are raspberries and lime slices trapped inside one of these alphabets. What they share is transparency, and that is the thing to plan for: an ice letter takes its colour from whatever sits behind it.

Ice Fonts Are Busiest From November to March

Drinks work comes first and stays all year: beer, spirits, energy drinks, anything advertised cold. Winter sports, ski resorts and outdoor brands follow, along with air conditioning, refrigeration and cold storage. Christmas and New Year campaigns take the icicle ones, and film and game titles reach for the cracked ones. Because these letters are see-through, give them a coloured or photographic ground rather than white.

How They Come

Every one of these Ice Fonts is an OpenType file, so you type rather than place. Each character also comes on its own as a transparent PNG at high resolution, and with ice that transparency matters more than usual: the PNG lets the background show through the letter exactly as it should.
