Bubbles Font Catches the Film Before It Bursts

Catch a bubble at the moment before it bursts. Every letter in the Bubbles Font is a single inflated skin of soap film, so the strokes bulge outward and the counters pinch into small round holes. Because the film is only microns thick, the colour comes from interference rather than pigment. Then bands of pink, green and gold slide across each surface. Meanwhile the highlights sit as sharp white points where the curve turns hardest. Naturally the whole letter looks one touch away from gone.

Iridescence That Moves With the Light

The colour is never fixed. Tilt the letter and the bands migrate, since thin-film interference shifts with the viewing angle. Darker rings appear where the film has drained thinnest. Besides that, the surface reflects its surroundings faintly, which ties the type to whatever sits behind it. In addition, small secondary bubbles cling at some joints. Above all, that clustering stops each glyph from reading as plain plastic.

Beauty Counters Love This Kind of Shimmer

Cosmetics packaging uses it constantly. Holographic merchandise, music festivals, bath products and children’s toys all suit it, because iridescence promises something playful. Tech launches also borrow it for a futuristic edge. Since it offers colour without committing to one, art directors keep it handy. Dark grounds make the film glow, since the bands need contrast behind them. Keep it large, though, or the iridescence averages into grey.

Everything in the Bubbles Font File

The film and the shine type from one ordinary OTF. The download also carries transparent PNG letters, so layering stays simple. Of course the rest of the odd materials live in our Experimental Fonts collection. For clusters of clear round bubbles rather than one inflated skin, the older soap-film alphabet builds letters differently. Bubbles Font keeps each letter whole.
