Russian Soul Font Is Stacked From Birch

Each letter uses several short billets, and you can see exactly where one piece ends and the next one begins. White bark wraps every piece, marked with the short black dashes that birch always carries. Because the ends are sawn flat, pale rings show clearly at every joint. Meanwhile the pieces sit at slightly different angles, so nothing lines up too neatly. So the alphabet looks built rather than drawn.

White Bark Against Almost Anything

Very few fonts are genuinely white, and that makes this one unusually easy to place on colour. Since the bark is pale while the dashes are dark, the letters carry their own contrast. Green, black and deep red grounds all work well behind it. Look closely, though, and the bark peels into thin papery curls along several of the pieces.

Cabins, Folk and Winter

Think cabins first of all. Rustic food brands, folk festival print and winter campaigns all follow on naturally from there. The mockups take it to posters, covers and packaging, and the joints stay readable however small it goes. Naturally it wants space around it, since crowded letters lose their stacking entirely. Also, one birch capital already reads as a mark.

What Russian Soul Font Ships With

Type it from a plain OTF, and the billets arrive stacked already. Alongside that, PNG letters sit on transparent backgrounds at high resolution. Those help when one letter has to land on a photo of snow. So a cabin sign comes together quickly. For thin peeled bark ribbons instead of whole logs, Birch Bark Font goes lighter instead. All the other timber sits in the Wooden Fonts collection.
