Cut From a Slice, Crust and All

Each letter is a slice of toast cut to shape, and the crust follows the outline. Meanwhile the colour shifts from pale gold in the middle to a dark scorched brown at the rim. Pores in the crumb stay visible, so the surface never looks printed. The forms are a chunky rounded sans too, so the texture never takes over. Look at the ampersand and you can see where the heat caught it hardest.

A Toast Icon Set Comes With It

Beyond A to Z, a full set of toasted icons turns up as well. Besides skulls with crossbones, there are hearts, stars, arrows, an eye, a clover and several hands. So a headline can finish with a toasted thumbs-up instead of a stock glyph. Also the numerals and currency symbols match, right down to a scorched euro. Consequently menus and price lists stay straightforward rather than a patching job.

The Golden Toast Font on Red, Yellow and Black

Of course red suits it best, judging by the CRISPY billboard on a corrugated wall. Then a yellow building wrap says GOOD MORNING across three storeys. There is a grey tee carrying a toast skull too, plus posters about breakfast and design. In addition, one shot runs a whole pangram in toast on near-black. Naturally, cafes, cereal packaging, brunch menus, food trucks and morning radio all suit it.

Popping the Golden Toast Font Out of the Toaster

Install the OTF and each slice lands with your keystrokes. The PNG letters also come cut out on transparent backgrounds, big enough to print. Our older Toast Font cuts its letter out of a whole square slice instead. The Bakery Fonts collection likewise gathers the bread, cookie and pastry faces. You will still have to supply the butter, though.
