This is not a rust filter dropped over clean type, since the corrosion changed the shapes themselves. Holes go right through the plate on several letters, and the rust ate the edges away unevenly. Because the scale blisters, the surface stands up in flakes and crusts you could catch a nail on. Meanwhile orange, brown and cold grey mix across a single stroke. So no two letters wear quite the same damage.
Bold Enough to Survive the Damage
The skeleton is a heavy condensed sans, and that mass is what stops the decay swallowing the letters whole. Since the strokes stay thick, holes read as texture rather than breakage. Counters stay large too, so words remain legible at any size. Set it big, and every letter turns into its own small landscape of pits and flakes.
