Tangle Font Draws Itself Out of a Mess

There is no solid stroke anywhere, since every shape is only a build-up of lines. Where the lines cross most often, the letter goes dark and reads solid. Elsewhere they thin out, so the edges dissolve into the paper. Because the density varies, each glyph carries a different weight. So a word set in this never sits perfectly even, and that is the charm.

Thin Enough to Feel Anxious

The lines are hair-fine, which keeps the whole alphabet light despite the chaos. Tall narrow capitals hold underneath, so the letters stay upright and readable. Meanwhile the palette is black on white and nothing else. Set it large, and you can follow individual threads right across the page. Besides, the sparse areas leave the paper showing through.

Quiet Print, Loud Idea

This one belongs on paper, so think poetry covers, album art and exhibition posters. Here the mockups try a gradient background, book covers and prints, and the fine lines survive every one. Naturally it wants space around it, since crowding turns the page grey and unreadable. Also, it prints better than it screens at small sizes. So keep it for headlines rather than captions, and give the lines air.

What Tangle Font Ships With

It arrives as a plain OTF, so the scribble comes with every keypress. In addition, PNG letters come on transparent backgrounds at high resolution. Those matter when one letter has to sit over artwork. Likewise a single letter makes a decent cover on its own. For softer, paler line work, Plexus Font goes blue and crumpled instead. Meanwhile our Experimental Fonts collection is full of similar oddities, if this is your register.
